Homework Policy
Homework is given Monday through Thursday. The only homework I give over weekends and breaks is for my kids to relax and have fun. Homework must be turned in the day it is due. If they forget it at home they can bring it the next day, but they must give it to me and let me know. I keep a checklist with each child's name for homework. Once it is collected, I check to see what they did. As long as they followed directions and I can see they did the work, I place a check by their name. They have 2 assignments each night, that is 8 check marks (4 for math and 4 for reading). Each assignment, done and turned in is worth 25 points. If they turn in all 4 math assignments and all 4 reading assignments, that is a homework grade of 100% for math and reading. If they miss an assignment, it would be either a 75, 50, 25, or 0, depending on how many they did not turn in.
Extra Credit Policy
I do not give extra credit. I do not "GIVE" any grades in my class. Each student earns the grade they get. If they work hard, try, ask questions, and don't give up, their grade is an accurate reflection of their ability in 5th grade.
Late Work Policy
If a student is absent, they have 2 days for every day absent to turn in missed work. For instance, if a student is absent for 2 days, they have 4 days to get the work and return it to me, finished. I will put any missed work in their mailbox. I will not hunt them down for the work, they must hand it in to me.
If a student does not turn in an assignment, I will give them a chance to complete it twice. If they still do not turn it in, they receive a zero. They will not be this lucky in middle school.

Grading Policy
If a student turns in an assignment and it is 2 days late, I will take 10 points off of their grade. After one week, I take off 20 points.
Beginning in the second six weeks, I will take off 10 points for:

Behavior Policy
For a small infraction
I will warn the student to change their behavior, I will pull the student to the side or hallway and talk to them about WHY are they acting this way. If it does not change, they will put their name on the board and owe me 2 minutes of their recess for every infraction. I do not like to take all of a students recess. Students NEED that time to run and scream and play. I will not take ALL of their recess. They will have some time to play.
If the problem does not change, I will:
For a large infraction
Large infractions are instances when a student has hurt him/herself or another student or put him/herself or another student in danger. In this case, they will go straight to Mrs. Troutman.

If the problem does not change, I will:
- Call the parent to ask for help
- Have the student conference with Mr. Tidwell, our counselor.
- Have the student conference with Mrs. Troutman, our principal.
- After this point, it is out of my hands and Mrs. Troutman will do what she feels is necessary.
